OPPORTUNITY The Piedmont is one of the most upscale senior housing communities in the southeast, with a prime address and thoughtful features that meet the unique needs of adults 55 and older. Located in Buckhead central, this high-rise is tucked amongst some of Atlanta’s most recognizable buildings, directly across the street from Phipps Plaza and around the corner from the Ritz. We knew we had location on our side and needed a look and feel that would compliment our upscale neighbors and appeal to this mature market.
DESIGN PROCESS The first high-rise in our senior housing portfolio, we wanted to build something distinct in style and well-suited for an active senior population. All 18 floors of luxury studios, one and two-bedroom apartments needed to capture the essence of Buckhead life, so we carefully selected the colors, finishes and floorplans to appeal to a refined palette and offer plenty of room for entertaining. The ground floor was designed with the Ritz Carlton in mind, with a grand lobby greeting you, a lavish dining area, a fitness studio and an outdoor pool facing the sunset.
LESSON LEARNED Several years after leasing, the owners realized that they needed to include assisted living units to accommodate residents who were phasing out of independent living, but didn’t want to face the hassle of moving. We were tasked with figuring out how to renovate two of the floors, while maintaining the integrity and style of the building. The result was completely reconfiguring the space to include smaller units and separate common areas that mimicked the style of the other floors, but offered a deeper level of privacy and care.
Canterfield at Forsyth Senior Living Campus
OPPORTUNITY Canterfield at Forsyth is one of our flagship Senior Living projects—one that exemplifies our attention to detail and thoughtful consideration of clients and their future residents. We worked closely with the owners to bring their vision of a well-appointed senior living campus to life, complete with a modern assisted living community with memory care wing, several upscale independent living ranches and a four story independent living apartment community. We knew we had location on our side and needed a look and feel that would compliment our upscale neighbors and appeal to this mature market.
DESIGN PROCESS In designing a senior living campus, we had to consider what each component needs to thrive on its own, as well as how all the separate components come together to create a beautiful, seamless feeling. Forsyth is one of the wealthiest counties in the country, so we built this community to evoke a country-club feeling, no matter if you’re in the comfortable memory care floor or the independent living resort-style pool. The idea behind all of our senior living campuses is that residents can live abundantly, age in place and get the care they need, when they need it.
LESSON LEARNED Canterfield was a three-phase project that began with the assisted living building, and was completed with the independent living apartments. It was very important to us that we kept the buildings separate, while keeping them similar in style and function and that we were able to design a campus with all the bells and whistles: upscale dining facilities, wood liquor lockers, lush garden landscapes, art rooms and top-notch fitness facilities—thoughtful amenities for keeping residents happy, active and young at heart.
