Years in the works, the Englewood master-planned community is geared toward providing quality, affordable housing for active seniors in the heart of Atlanta. The 160-unit, five-story building sits on the northern portion of a 30-acre site in Chosewood Park, about one and ½ miles south of Zoo Atlanta.
A partnership between Atlanta Housing and local developers, The Benoit Group, the site includes 21 units with rents capped at 30 percent of the area median income level or below. The building also has 15,000 square feet of retail and is a short walk from the ever-popular BeltLine trail and Grant Park, providing a great environment for people to get out and explore.
Residents get to pick from either one or two-bedroom apartments, and have a bounty of great amenities to enjoy, including a theater, laundry services on every floor, wellness center, community room and computer center. Additionally, the outdoor spaces have lots of sidewalks, greenways and gathering spaces, as well as a community garden.
Part of the Mayor’s affordable housing initiative, this project is high profile and has lots of community support—but also many guidelines. There is a second building of multifamily apartments and initially the two sites were going to be one, but as the parcel kept getting smaller and smaller to meet zoning regulations and BeltLine restrictions, we had to rethink our initial plan. The end result is two sites with different construction calendars, yet one cohesive vision.
