The COG Year in Review: 2019

From groundbreakings to finishing touches, new faces to promotions from within, we’re extremely lucky to have had an amazing decade’s-end here at Corcoran Ota. Before 2020 consumes us with new projects to design and new housing and senior living trends to geek out over, let’s take a look back at the year that just ended.

We added some technical muscle to the team.

With fresh faces in the studio, we took on the next generation of highly skilled talent; a group that has boosted our REVIT and rendering capabilities immensely, balancing out our team of experienced architects and project leads.

We formed fresh partnerships.

We welcomed two new developer clients into the COG project family: Zon, senior living experts from Florida; and Watkins Real Estate Group, multi-family developers from right here in Atlanta. We look forward to breaking ground on new work in collaboration with these groups in 2020.

We broke ground on a mix of four Affordable and IL Senior Living projects – and made history.

As we’ve mentioned before, Senior Living is one of our passions at COG. In 2019 we were honored to not only begin on four new projects, but become a part of Atlanta’s future as an accessible city. At our Creekside at Adamsville Place groundbreaking in October, Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms took the opportunity to announce five resolutions that will help fund the creation and rehabilitation of 709 new affordable rental units in Southside and Westside Atlanta neighborhoods. Among the first five to be approved for bond financing? Our Sylvan Hills Senior Living Project.

We promoted from within.

Being a studio where a young architect can grow and evolve in their career is one of our proudest achievements. As such, in 2019, two of our female staffers, Amber Einarsson and Judy Warner-Babb were promoted to Associate, and two Architectural Interns, Desiree Johnson and Sara Selander made the leap to Project Coordinator, while David Jones moved up to Project Designer.

We joined the community cause – several of them, in fact.

Finally, we rounded out 2019 with service, as we do each and every year. Our engagement with Habitat for Humanity included refurbishing a current homeowner’s house exterior in May. We spent a day at Santa’s Village during the holidays supporting both the Empty Stocking Fund and Atlanta Property Group, and did a Toys for Tots drive in the COG office. We also continued our tradition of financial support to two teens attending the Maji Mazuri Centre International education program in Kenya. We look forward to more giving back in 2020.
